Won’t Cost Taxpayers A Dime

Standard-Rate tuition for undocumented students will not cost taxpayers a single penny.  In fact, it will raise millions of dollars in additional tuition revenue for our finacially-strapped institutions of higher education.

  • Colorado ASSET students will not be eligible for College Opportunity Funds, which is how Colorado funds its state institutions of higher education. This means they will pay more to attend a Colorado college or university than a Colorado resident.
    • For an in-state resident of Colorado attending a state public university or college, the in-state tuition rate is subsidized by the College Opportunity Fund known as COF. This buy -down is currently $62 per credit hour. For an average student taking 30 credit hours annually, this results in a subsidy of $1,860 a year (30 credit hours x $62).
    • Below is a table illustrating what various students would pay per year to take 30 credit hours. The second column is the cost a Colorado resident would pay after receiving the COF subsidy, the sudent’s share of in-state tuition. The third column is the standard-rate tuition which a Colorado ASSET student would pay once Colorado ASSET passes. The fourth column is what an undocumented student has to pay currently.
